According to reports from Calcio Mercato, Arsenal and Chelsea have been beaten to the signature of Boca Juniors striker Jonathan Calleri by Inter Milan.

The 22-year-old frontman has been compared in style to former Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez and has just come to the end of an incredible season at La Bombonera, firing Boca to the 2015 title with an impressive haul of 21 goals.

It was reported earlier this week that Premier League rivals Arsenal and Chelsea would be scrapping over the 5 foot 10 prodigy in the coming transfer window, with both clubs expected to bolster their forward lines.

But according to Calcio Mercato, who cite reports from Sky Italia, fellow suitors Inter Milan have already agreed a deal to sign Calleri next month.

However, the Boca sensation won’t be able to feature for Nerazzurri until next season, having already maximised their quota of non-EU players, so a loan move to Bologna, Chievo or Frosinone for the second half of the campaign could be on the cards.

Calcio Mercato aren’t the most reliable of sources, but the report corresponds with quotes from Boca Juniors president Daniel Angelici, who said earlier this month; “Calleri’s sale is 99 percent complete. He will be sold to an English investment fund and he will play in Italy.”
