According to reports from The Express yesterday afternoon, Manchester United youngster Callum Gribbin rejected an £11k per-week contract offer from Manchester City earlier this year.
The Etihad outfit have made a huge effort to improve their home-grown contingent in recent years – spending a combined £63million on Raheem Sterling, Fabian Delph and Patrick Roberts during the summer – and Callum Gribbin is one of the latest English talents to emerge on their radar.
The only problem is that he plays for fierce rivals Manchester United, who clearly rate the 16 year-old very highly. The midfielder, who has often been compared in style to Ryan Giggs, featured as a substitute during the U21s’ 2014/15 season finale against the Citizens and has already trained with the first team at Carrington.
City were keen to take Gribbin off the Red Devils’ hands and reportedly offered him a contract worth an incredible £11million per week.
But the teenager rejected it in favour of signing a four-year contract at Old Trafford, allegedly due to the influence of manager Louis van Gaal.
