Youri Tielemans

According to reports from The Daily Star this afternoon, former Anderlecht manager Paul van Himst believes in-demand midfielder Youri Tielemans shouldn’t move to a high-profile club until he wins the Golden Shoe award.

The 18 year-old prodigy has claimed back-to-back Young Player of the Year awards in the Belgian top flight and last season amassed an impressive 52 appearances across all competitions, bagging eight goals.

He’s produced even better form this term, netting thrice in nine Jupiler League outings, and Anderlecht know they won’t be able to hold onto the Belgium U21 for much longer.

Indeed, Chelsea and Manchester United are believed to have held talks with Tielemans’ representatives earlier this month regarding a potential move in summer 2016, whilst Arsenal are also known admirers.

But according to The Star, former Anderlecht boss Paul van Himst believes the midfielder shouldn’t leave Constant Vanden Stock Stadium until he’s claimed a Golden Shoe – the Belgian league’s equivalent of the Player of the Year award.

He told Belgian outlet Voetbalkrant; “Tielemans should become an important player for Anderlecht and win the Golden Shoe before he moves abroad. It would prove that he played a full season at a high level and that is what I am waiting for Tielemans to do.”
