According to reports from The Guardian yesterday evening, Chelsea are ‘confident’ of beating Manchester United and PSG to Red Star Belgrade prodigy Marko Grujic.
The 19 year-old measures in at a lofty 6 foot 3 and has resultantly been compared in style and stature to the Blues’ midfield monolith Nemanja Matic.
He featured prominently as Serbia won the U20 World Cup in New Zealand during the summer and has been attracting interest from Chelsea, Manchester United and PSG recently.
Indeed, the Premier League champions have monitored Grujic’s progress for some time whilst Red Devils scouts ran the rule over the teenager during last Saturday’s Belgrade derby – he scored the first, a 30-yard piledriver, in a 3-0 win over FK Rad Beograd. PSG, meanwhile, view him as a potential replacement for their own want-away midfield prodigy Adrien Rabiot.
But according to The Guardian, Chelsea are growing increasingly confident of beating rival suitors to the £3million-rated Serbia 21’s signature. They’re known to have good ties with the Belgrade outfit and have been tracking Grujic the longest.
Recent reports even claim the west Londoners have already set up a loan move for the towering prospect. TuttoMercatoWeb claim his first season as an official Blue will be spent farmed out to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga.
