Enes Unal

According to reports from The Daily Star this afternoon, Manchester City hotshot Enes Unal has revealed he rejected the chance to join Premier League rivals Chelsea this summer.

The young striker, who measures in at 6 foot 1, is widely regarded as one of the Etihad outfit’s most exciting prospects, having already claimed his first senior cap for Turkey at just 18 years of age.

He netted seven goals in 54 appearances across all competitions during his two terms in the Bursaspor first team -becoming the youngest goalscorer in the history of the Turkish top flight in the process – which paved the way for a £2million move to Eastlands during the summer transfer window.

Unal now finds himself loaned out to Genk for the next two seasons and has already registered four league appearances for the Belgian club, although he’s yet to get on the score sheet.

And according to The Star, who cite reports from Turkish-Football.com, the prodigious forward has now revealed that he chose the Citizens over title rivals Chelsea.

He said; “One of the other teams that wanted me was Chelsea. I decided to join Manchester City because they had shown more interest and were really keen in bringing me in. City have been investing in their youngsters and have great projects for the future which also swayed me.”

It’s assumed Chelsea intended to sign Unal as part of their formidable farming out operation. The Premier League champions currently have 34 players on loan at other clubs.
