According to reports from The Metro this morning, Jurgen Klopp could make Sassuolo forward Domenico Berardi his first signing as Liverpool manager.
The 21 year-old is one of Italian football’s emerging talents, boasting a potent haul of 42 goals in 102 appearances for the Mapei Stadium outfit.
He impressively bagged his first 30 league goals in just 59 games – reaching the landmark quicker than four-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi – and last term claimed the most joint most assists of any player in Serie A, ten.
According to The Metro, who cite reports from Italian publication CalcioMercato, Jurgen Klopp wanted to sign the Italy U21 – who can operate as a centre-forward or in wide positions – whilst at Borussia Dortmund but a complicated co-ownership agreement with Juventus stood in the way.
Sassuolo now own the 6 foot 1 forward’s rights entirely – although the Old Lady still have a buy-back option for next summer – meaning Liverpool will only have to hold negotiations with one party.
Where Berardi would fit in a forward line already boasting considerable firepower in Christian Benteke, Daniel Sturridge, Danny Ings and Divock Origi, however, remains to be seen.
