According to reports from The Metro this afternoon, Chelsea will return for summer target Paul Pogba in January but face competition from Manchester City and Barcelona.

The Blues pushed to sign the 22 year-old until the final hours of summer deadline day but failed to get a deal over the line despite reportedly agreeing a £62million fee with Juventus – allegedly due to the midfielder rejecting the chance of a last-minute Stamford Bridge switch.

According to The Metro, who cite Spanish publication Fichajes, the Premier League champions will look to revive their interest in the former Manchester United youngster, who swapped Old Trafford for the Old Lady by way of a free transfer in summer 2012, when the transfer window reopens in the new year.

But convincing Pogba into a west London move could prove an even tougher task in January. Barcelona, who saw an €80million bid for the France international rejected in July, will have emerged from their transfer embargo whilst Manchester City are also expected to continue their sustained interest.

Furthermore, Juventus chief executive Giuseppe Marotta warned earlier this month that potential suitors will have to pay ‘more than €100million‘ to sign Pogba after the Chelsea deal collapsed.

That equates to around £73million – or 2.1 Andy Carrolls.
