2. Thomas Muller

According to reports from The Independent this morning, Manchester United have launched a £60million bid for Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller.

The 25 year-old is widely regarded one of the most formidable attackers in world football, famed for his work rate, versatility and netting prowess.

He’s amassed 123 goals in 306 appearances for the Allianz Arena outfit – including two strikes in his first Bundesliga appearance of the season last Friday – and has been instrumental to Germany’s successes at the last two World Cups; picking up the Golden Boot in 2010 and netting five times as Die Mannschaft lifted the title last summer.

Last week came reports that the Red Devils were preparing a bid for Muller that would eclipse the Premier League’s £59.7million record transfer fee – currently held by now-PSG star Angel Di Maria.

And according to The Independent, who cite German publication Bild, that’s exactly what they’ve done; launched a bid worth just shy of £60million.

Bayern CEO Karl-Heinze Rummenigge has insisted the 25 year-old won’t be sold this summer, recently telling reporters; “I can calm all the worries of all Bayern supporters. We will not let another player leave for Manchester United.”

But manager Pep Guardiola substituted Muller 22 times last season, more than any other Bayern player, and boasting arguably the most holistic squad in world football, the Bundesliga champions would hardly be left short if the 6 foot 1 forward decided to leave.
