According to reports from yesterday evening, Manchester United are targeting two of world football’s most revered centre-forwards to replace former striker Robin van Persie.

The first, courtesy of talkSPORT, is PSG front-man Edinson Cavani, who boasts incredible returns of 56 goals in 96 appearances for the Parisians and 104 in 138 for former club Napoli.

The 28 year-old was linked with an Old Trafford move back in May after admitting he could leave the Ligue 1 champions, amid disputes over his role in the starting Xi.

Jamie Jackson, a journalist for The Guardian, told the sports radio station; “Edinson Cavani is Manchester United’s prime target to replace Robin van Persie. Liverpool are more keen on Christian Benteke than United. Benteke is on United’s list, and there is interest there, but he’s not top of the list at the moment.”

The second, courtesy of The Telegraph, is Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski, who they allege now tops Louis van Gaal’s wishlist following the capture of midfield duo Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin.

The Poland international – famed for once scoring four goals against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu – only moved to the Allianz Arena last summer. But having arrived on a free transfer and not always seen eye-to-eye with manager Pep Guardiola, the German champions could be willing to part with the 26 year-old in the current transfer window.
