According to reports from Mirror Football yesterday afternoon, Manchester City are prepared to smash the Premier League’s record transfer fee to land Wolfsburg midfielder Kevin De Bruyne this summer.

The Belgium international struggled to impress during his two years at Chelsea, instead finding himself loaned out to Genk and Werder Bremen.

But he’s proved an absolute revelation since signing for Wolfsburg for an £18million fee in January 2014, finishing last season with 10 goals and 20 assists in 34 Bundesliga appearances – the most set-ups of any player in Europe’s five leading top flights.

Manchester City hope to bring him back to the Premier League this summer and agent Patrick de Koster has already admitted to receiving ‘informal contact‘ from the Etihad outfit.

And according to Mirror Football, Manuel Pellegrini is now ready to accelerate his interest in the 24 year-old by launching a bid that will eclipse the Premier League record £59.9million fee Manchester United paid for Angel Di Maria last summer.

Following the signings of Fabian Delph, Raheem Sterling and Patrick Roberts, their rumoured £60million offer will take City’s summer spending well past the £100million mark.
