According to reports from The Daily Star this afternoon, Liverpool are targeting Chelsea winger Mohamed Salah as a replacement for England international Raheem Sterling.

The Egypt international infamously rejected interest from the Reds to join the Stamford Bridge ranks for an £11million fee in January 2014.

He’s since struggled to break into the Blues’ first team, however, seeing just 13 Premier League appearances and finding himself sent out on loan to Fiorentina for the second half of last season, where he netted six times in 16 Serie A outings.

But according to The Star, who cite Italian website Calcio Mercato, the 23 year-old has remained on the Anfield radar and Brendan Rodgers is now targeting him as a like-minded replacement to Raheem Sterling, who officially signed for Manchester City on Tuesday.

Salah has been deemed surplus to requirements in west London but Liverpool face a few obstacles before acquiring his signature. Currently, the 5 foot 9 attacker is at the centre of a legal battle between Chelsea and Fiorentina, after refusing to see out the remaining year of his 18 month loan spell.
