Central Midfield - Moussa Sissoko

According to reports from The Express this morning, Tottenham Hotspur have launched an £18million bid for Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko.

The France international was amongst the better of a bad bunch at St. James’ Park last season, grabbing four goals and two assists in 34 Premier League outings and producing particularly strong displays against the division’s top clubs – providing an assist in a 2-1 win over Chelsea and scoring as the Magpies eliminated Manchester City from the Capital One Cup.

The 25 year-old has long-been mooted as a potential remedy to the lack of power and athleticism in Arsenal’s midfield – by sources such as Mirror Football – but last month claimed Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has been ‘following his progress‘, for some time, hinting at shock move to Stamford Bridge.

But according to The Express, London rivals Tottenham are now at the front of the queue to sign the former Toulouse star. Citing French website Foot Mercato, they claim the Lilywhites have launched an £18million bid.

Whether the news will convince Arsenal or Chelsea to follow suit, remains to be seen.
