Man United begin talks over £40m deal for CL-winning Arsenal target

Karim Benzema

According to reports from The Daily Star this morning, Manchester United representatives have met with Karim Benzema’s agent to discuss a summer transfer for the Real Madrid striker.

The France international boasts 133 goals in 281 appearances for Los Blancos, helping them to a La Liga title, two Copa del Reys and the 2014 Champions League title since moving to the Bernabeu from Lyon in 2009.

As This Is Futbol revealed last month, however, the Spanish giants are reportedly looking to cash in on the 6 foot 2 forward this summer and replace him with a more prolific forward. At 27 years of age and with four years remaining on his current contract, they view the coming window as the ideal time to sell.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger refused to rule out a move for the £40million-rated striker last week, whilst he’s also emerged as a priority target for Manchester United – as reported by This Is Futbol.

And according to The Daily Star, the Red Devils have now taken the initiative in the race for Benzema’s signature. Executive vice chairman was spotted in London earlier this week and it’s believed he’s been discussing a move with the striker’s agent, Karim Djazin.

That will likely spell the end of Robin van Persie’s Old Trafford career. Recent reports from The Guardian claim he could be on the verge of signing for Lazio.
