Liverpool or Man United could trigger mysterious Benteke clause

According to reports from The Express this morning, Christian Benteke’s Aston Villa contract includes a mysterious clause that could trigger his departure from the Birmingham outfit this summer.

The Belgium international has emerged as one of the Premier League’s most in-demand front-men ahead of the summer transfer window after netting twelve times in his last twelve appearances across all competitions.

A winning performance against Arsenal in the FA Cup final this weekend could further accelerate interest in the 6 foot 3 striker, with Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United already known admirers – as This Is Futbol revealed last week.

And according to reports from The Express, a mysterious clause in the 24 year-old’s contract could make the recruitment process considerably easier for Benteke’s suitors.

Although The Express lack specific details, they claim the former Genk prodigy’s contract contains a release clause upwards of the £20million mark, but likely lower than the £30million fee This Is Futbol reported earlier this month.

They also believe Liverpool could have the upper hand in signing Benteke. Villains Director of Recruitment Paddy Reilly worked at Anfield as recently as November, and is well acquainted with the club’s negotiators.
