According to reports from The Daily Mail yesterday evening, Borussia Dortmund are ready to listen to offers for midfielder Ilkay Gundogan following his refusal to discuss a new contract.
The German international first drew attention during the Black-Yellows’ 2012/13 Champions League campaign which saw them reach the tournament’s final, and he’s been mooted as a prime target for Europe’s top clubs ever since.
The long-awaited move looks set to happen this summer, however; Gundogan’s Westfalen contract expires in summer 2016 and he’s now decided not to renew his deal – as Dortmund confirmed on their Twitter account earlier this week – following a campaign in which the Bundesliga side failed to qualify for the Champions League and resultantly parted with iconic manager Jurgen Klopp.
Unwilling to part with the 24 year-old on a free transfer next summer, Dortmund are now forced to cash-in. And potential suitors are hardly in short supply; The Mail list Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Manchester United as likely candidates for his signature.
