According to reports from The Metro this morning, Tottenham Hotspur will offer £20million plus winger Andros Townsend to beat Arsenal to the signature of Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.
The 25 year-old has emerged as one of the top enforcers in the Premier League since the Saints’ ascension to the top flight in summer 2012, this season averaging the second-most tackles per-match, 3.7, of any player in the division after Manchester City’s Pablo Zabaleta.
He wanted to leave St. Mary’s last summer until the south coast outfit famously refused to sell – as reported by BBC Sport – but after another fantastic season, a host of lucrative suitors have revived their interest in the France international.
As This Is Futbol revealed earlier this month, Arsenal have already launched a £15million bid for Schneiderlin, whilst Chelsea have offered Nigerian international John Obi Mikel in exchange.
But according to The Metro, Tottenham have raised the stakes by offering £20million and England winger Andros Townsend. He almost joined Ronald Koeman’s side last summer – as reported by Sky Sports – but the two clubs couldn’t agree a fee before the deadline.
If successful, the bid would see Schneiderlin link up with former boss Mauricio Pochettino at White Hart Lane.
