Hector Moreno

According to reports from Here Is The City this morning, Arsenal have launched a €10million bid for Espanyol star Hector Moreno.

The 27 year-old first drew the attention of Europe’s top clubs during the 2010 World Cup, where he helped Mexico escape Group A to face Argentina in the first knock-out round – which also included eventual play-off winners Uruguay, 2006 champions France and tournament hosts South Africa.

He signed for Espanyol a year later and has since emerged as one of the most consistent centre-backs in La Liga, last term averaging an impressive 1.1 tackles, 1.7 interceptions, 2.1 successful aerial duels and 5.2 clearances per match.

The 6 foot defender almost signed for Tottenham last summer before fracturing his left tibia at the 2014 World Cup, and he’s since emerged as a target for Arsenal and Juventus – as This Is Futbol revealed last month.

It’s believed Spurs want to rekindle negotiations in the coming transfer window, which would see Moreno link up with former Espanyol boss Mauricio Pochettino. As This Is Futbol revealed in April, the heart of defence is one of three areas the Argentine wants to strengthen this summer.

But HITC, who source Mexican newspaper Record, claim Arsenal have now tabled a €10million bid – which converts into £7.1million.
