Centre-Back - Mats Hummels

According to reports from Mirror Football this morning, Borussia Dortmund captain Mats Hummels has rejected a summer move to Manchester United.

The Red Devils are expected to bolster the heart of their defence in the coming transfer window, despite impressive campaigns from Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and £16million signing Marcos Rojo, and the German World Cup winner was believed to be their priority target.

The 25 year-old is widely viewed as one of the top centre-backs in world football and was expected to leave Dortmund this summer following a 2014/15 campaign in which they’ve failed to qualify for the Champions League and resultantly parted with iconic manager Jurgen Klopp.

Arsenal were also mooted as potential suitors of the 6 foot 4 defender by The Daily Star in April, whilst Mirror Football claimed in November 2014 that Hummels was particularly keen on a January move to the Emirates.

But it appears the Black-Yellows skipper has snubbed both Premier League clubs in favour of staying on at Westfalen.

That’s according to Sporting Director Michael Zorke, who recently told Kicker Magazine; “It made sense that Mats was thinking about his future, but I always pointed out that we plan [for the future] with him.”

Meanwhile, The Daily Mail claim United have switched targets to Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi.
