According to reports from The Daily Mail yesterday afternoon, Arsenal have made contact with the family of Borussia Dortmund star Ilkay Gundogan – in the hope’ll agree a summer move to The Emirates.
The German international, who played an intrinsic role in the Black-Yellows’ surprise march to the 2013 Champions League final, looks set to leave Westfalen this summer, having refused to extend his contract past the end of next season – which Dortmund revealed via their Twitter account earlier this month, as reported by This Is Futbol.
Premier League trio Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United, alongside Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid, have all been mooted as potential suitors of the 24 year-old by The Daily Mail.
But it appears the Gunners are hoping they can convince the midfielder’s family to make his mind up for him. They’ve made contact with the former Bundesliga title winner’s family, and particularly his father and agent Ifray Gundogan.
With Manchester United reportedly waiting until the summer to decide upon a bid for the £15million-rated midfielder, Arsenal’s pro-activity could give them the upper hand. Currently, however, Dortmund are yet to receive any official bids.
