According to reports from Goal.com this morning, Arsene Wenger has refused to rule out a summer bid for Real Madrid star Karim Benzema.
Despite finding himself continually overshadowed by Cristiano Ronaldo in the scoring charts, the 27 year-old boasts an impressive return of 133 goals in 281 appearances for Los Blancos and has certainly proved his compatibility with the three-time Ballon d’Or winner since their joint arrivals at the Bernabeu in summer 2009.
As This Is Futbol revealed earlier this month, however, the Spanish outfit are reportedly planning to cash in on the France international this summer to make way for a more prolific centre-forward, triggering interest from Premier League trio Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United.
As This Is Futbol revealed yesterday, Arsenal are believed to be preparing an opening bid for the 6 foot 2 striker, with prior reports claiming the La Liga giants will sell for around £40million.
But when quizzed on the issue this week, Gunners gaffer Arsene Wenger was deliberately coy, telling reporters; “We’ll deal with transfers after the FA Cup final. It’s all suspicions, nobody knows if its true or not.”
He gave a similar response to questions on Arturo Vidal, who the north Londoners are believed to have already agreed a fee for, as This Is Futbol revealed last week.
“I like Arturo Vidal. Are we in a transfer mode? I say no,” quipped Le Prof.
