According to reports from The Metro this morning, Manchester United are lining up Benfica star Nicolas Gaitan as a potential replacement for Angel Di Maria.
The former Real Madrid star moved to Old Trafford only last summer for a club record £59million fee. But he’s struggled to impress during his first season with the Red Devils despite claiming the third-most assists (10) of any Premier League player.
The Independent resultantly claim the 27 year-old could leave for PSG in the coming transfer window, who tried to beat United to his signature at the start of the season.
Meanwhile, Nicolas Gaitan’s agent Jorge Mendes – whose other clients include Diego Costa and Jose Mourinho – and Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira arrived in London last weekend to negotiate the midfielder’s move to Old Trafford, as This Is Futbol revealed on Saturday.
A like-minded playmaker of similar South American flair, The Metro speculate the Primeira Liga star – who was watched by Chelsea scouts earlier this season, as This Is Futbol revealed in April – is being targeted as Di Maria’s direct replacement.
They also claim Benfica will sell for around £21.5million.
