Andrea Pirlo

According to reports from The Telegraph this morning, Chelsea and Liverpool are both targeting Juventus’ iconic playmaker Andrea Pirlo ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 35 year-old has enjoyed an illustrious career, winning two Champions League titles with AC Milan, four Serie A titles with Juventus and a World Cup with the Italian national team, and is widely regarded as one of the most technically gifted midfielders of his generation.

But he’s recently hinted he could leave the Turin outfit this summer, despite a year remaining on his current contract, describing winning this season’s Champions League title as ‘the best way to close’ his Juve career.

Currently, the Old Lady hold a 2-1 lead over Real Madrid in tournament’s semi-finals, after a home win in the first leg on Tuesday evening.

“Ending my Juventus story by pocketing the Champions League would be a dream come true,” said Pirlo, as quoted by talkSPORT.

“But I won’t stop playing, I’ll go on as long as I have the same great desire to keep training every day. Winning this tournament would admittedly be the best way to close [my Juventus career]. But I wouldn’t go to another Italian team.

“Juventus will be my last Serie A team, whatever happens. The MLS could be an idea, but for the moment I don’t have anything, Juve are the only thing on my mind,” he added.

And The Telegraph now claim Chelsea and Liverpool are both interested in the playmaking veteran. The Premier League would be a new challenge for him and both clubs are keen to enhance their central midfield options this summer.
