Juan Iturbe

As This Is Futbol informed you last week, Arsenal and Liverpool have both been linked with summer bids for Roma prodigy Juan Iturbe.

The Premier League duo were courting the 21 year-old last summer after his sensational performances for Hellas Verona, but he elected to join Roma instead and has since going on to make just 15 starts out of a possible 31 in Serie A.

From those outings he’s claimed just the one goal and one assist – compared to last year’s haul of eight goals and four assists for Gialloblu – and Roma are now considering cashing in on their €22million acquisition.

But reports from The Liverpool Echo this morning claim Liverpool have taken the initiative in the race to sign the young Argentine. They’ve tabled an £18million bid – just £4million below Roma’s rumoured asking price.

Whether Arsenal will decide to match the Anfield outfit’s offer – or potentially even meet Roma’s asking price – remains to be seen.
