Real Madrid and Chelsea set for summer battle over Bundesliga prodigy

According to reports from The Telegraph this morning, Chelsea now face European champions Real Madrid in their pursuit for Bundesliga star Baba Rahman.

The 20 year-old prodigious left-back has been in excellent form since signing for FC Augsburg last summer, going on to claim four assists in 22 Bundesliga starts whilst averaging 1.7 successful dribbles, 2.8 clearances, 2.8 interceptions and four tackles per match. The latter statistic is only bettered throughout the German top flight by Hamburg’s Valon Behrami.

The news follows reports, also supplied by The Telegraph, that summer signing Filipe Luis could be lured back to Atletico Madrid next summer in a £16million deal after struggling to usurp Cesar Azpilicueta from the No.3 role in Chelsea’s starting line-up.

Real Madrid’s apparent interest certainly throws a new factor into the equation, but they’re hardly the only interested party. Alongside Los Blancos and the Blues, Manchester United have been linked to the Ghana international by The Daily Star, whilst Goal.com reported on Borussia Dortmund’s interest back in January.
