As This Is Futbol informed you yesterday, Arsenal are believed to have won the race for England international James Milner, with the 29 year-old reportedly set to reject offers from current club Manchester City and potential suitors Liverpool.
Reports from The Express this morning, however, claim the Anfield outfit could have a way back in – should they be willing to offer Milner a four-year contract.
The Three Lions man has spent five seasons at the Etihad, in that time proving himself to be one of the most consistent, versatile and dedicated midfielders in the Premier League.
City want to keep hold of him, but Milner looks set to walk out on the Premier League champions this summer when his contract expires, has already turned down a three-year extension worth £80k per-week.
Consequentially, The Express speculate that although the former Leeds, Newcastle and Aston Villa man would prefer to move to the Emirates over Anfield, a four-term deal could convince him otherwise.
With home-grown talent becoming an ever-increasing concern for Premier League recruiters, however, Liverpool and Arsenal are unlikely to be the only top English clubs targeting Milner this summer.
