Miranda

According to reports from The Daily Star this afternoon, Manchester United and Chelsea have found a new competitor in their pursuit of Atletico Madrid defender Miranda – with Serie A Juventus champions preparing an £18million bid.

The Brazil international has been a central pillar of a Mattress Makers outfit that’s claimed a Europa League title, a Copa del Rey, a UEFA Super-Cup and a La Liga title since summer 2011, making 111 league appearances for them in that time period.

He’s been linked with a move away from Vincente Calderon in recent months, however, largely due to his Atletico contract verging upon it’s final year, with 20 year-old prodigy Jose Giminez emerging as his potential long-term successor.

Chelsea and Manchester United are both keen on the 30 year-old – a particularly athletic defender famed for his simple-yet-effective style – but The Star claim Juventus have now taken the initiative and are planning an £18million bid for the summer.
