According to reports from Mirror Football this evening, Chelsea are considering a swap deal involving left-back Filipe Luis to lower Atletico Madrid’s asking price for star midfielder Koke.
The 23 year-old is a key player in a Mattress Makers outfit that have claimed a Europa League title, a Copa del Rey, a UEFA Super-Cup and a La Liga title since summer 2012, amassing eleven goals and 31 assists in his last 97 La Liga outings.
And the Spain international seems a particularly good fit for Chelsea, having added class to an Atletico side built around world-class organisation and energy.
Unfortunately, however, the La Liga champions value their prodigious playmaker at a whopping £50million, having set his release clause at that precise sum.
But Mirror Football claim Chelsea are considering a cost-cutting solution – letting misfit defender Filipe Luis return to Vincente Calderon in a cash-plus-player deal.
The Brazil international spent four years at Atletico before moving to west London in a £15million deal last summer.
Having since managed just seven starts in the Premier League, however, as he struggles to usurp Cesar Azpilicueta from the No.3 berth, it’s claimed the Blues would be prepared to part with the 29 year-old at the end of the season.
