LacazetteThere are a few strikers out there in world football who seem to be attracting the attention of the European elite. In particular, Luiz Adriano seems to be catching the eye at Shakhtar Donestk, Jackson Martinez is doing a grand job at FC Porto and Alexandre Lacazette is scoring goals for fun at Lyon. There’s a good chance that these three players will find the price-tags greatly elevated by their performances this season.

It’s that last man we’re going to focus on, particularly as he seems to be drawing attention from Liverpool. For much of the first half of the season, The Reds struggled to conjure up the goals they needed. With Daniel Sturridge out injured and Mario Balotelli unable to produce the goods, they were something of a damp squib upfront.

Things have got better in recent weeks (as Daniel Sturridge has return from his convalescence – no real surprise there), but Brendan Rodgers will want to guard against the same turn of events in the future. Perhaps Lacazette is the man for the job?

Ex-Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier certainly seems to be a fan. Check out these recent quotes: “He’s top of… Ligue 1, but he’s not international [class] yet and he knows that. But he can be world class if he keeps progressing and working on his talent. I was told he’s a very dedicated professional. So if he looks after himself and if he does the right thing, he can become really top notch really.”

Last season Lacazette scored 22 goals in 54 games. This year, he’s been even better. He’s only played 29 times, but he’s already managed to improve on last season’s tally by finding the back of the net 25 times. I’d say Houllier is right. If Lacazette puts his mind to it, he’s going to blossom into a very special talent indeed. He’s only 23-years-old, after all.

The Metro claim that he could be available for £23m. That’s a lot of money, but given his quality and his goal-scoring nous, it could prove to be a price worth paying. Let’s hope that Brendan Rodgers has been paying attention to Gerard Houllier.

What’s your take? Should The Reds make a move for this Ligue 1 sensation?
