Jackson MartinezArsenal have had a mixed bag of a season, but it’s clear enough that there’s plenty of talent within this team. Heck, even Mesut Ozil, a perennial under-performer seems to be coming into his own in recent weeks. The German ace is creating a bag-load of opportunities for his team-mates in every game.

And strikers like Olivier Giroud have been there to capitalise. Still, I can’t help but wonder how good Arsenal would be if they had one of the world’s best forwards leading their line. Imagine how good they’d be with an in form Robin Van Persie still at the club. Or perhaps, Edinson Cavani? Maybe, Karim Benzema?

How about Jackson Martinez? According to The Metro, Arsenal are keen to ‘bag’ FC Porto’s star striker, as ‘their marquee’ summer signing. This truly is exciting news for fans. The Colombian ace is one of the best finishers in the game.

He’s been scoring goals for fun for the last three seasons, but he’s been particularly good this season. In 29 games for Porto, he’s found the back of the net 25 times. He truly is a deadly force.

He’s also 28-years-old, so he’s currently in his peak. It’s also worth bearing in mind that he’s not getting any younger. If he doesn’t get a move to a big club soon, then I’m not sure it’s going to happen.

The aforementioned source claims that Arsenal will have to spend £29.5m to close this deal. He’s not going to come cheap. In fact, that’s almost as much as the club spent on Alexis Sanchez. The Colombian is going to have to score a lot of goals in order to match the Chilean’s influence on this Arsenal side.

Still, I can’t help but feel that he’s worthy of his price-tag. He’s physically tough, mentally strong and his record speaks for itself. It’s time to bring him to the Premier League.

What’s your take? Is Jackson Martinez the right man for Arsenal? Who else should they look at?
