Jackson MartinezWhat does FC Porto star Jackson Martinez have to do to earn a move to a big club? How many goals does he need to score to earn the attention of the European elite?

The man has been in sparkling form for the last four years now. In fact, since he joined Porto, back in 2012, he’s managed to score 85 goals in 120 games. That’s a remarkable return.

And yet he still seems to be getting better. Just look at what he’s achieved this season. He’s thus far played 29 times and he’s found the back of the net 25 times. That’s one of the most efficient strike-rates in European football. Surely with a record like this, the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester United will be coming knocking soon enough?

Arsene Wenger certainly seems to have taken note of the Colombian ace. When asked about his qualities, he responded as follows: ‘Top physical strengths. Hugely efficient, he is the kind of player who can make room for himself in the box. He could play in the Premier League because he has the body to make the difference. He uses it in a very intelligent way. Very short back lift and he’s a very good finisher.’

‘He’s on the list of many clubs, you know that. He will be the next big transfer who will give a big smile to Pinto da Costa [Porto’s owner].’ (Source: The Metro)

Of course, these comments have got tongues wagging: could Arsenal be interested in a move for Jackson Martinez? The Metro certainly seem to think so, as they suggest that the club is ‘very keen’ on making a move next summer.

There’s no word as to how much he might cost, but Arsene Wenger is right: he won’t come cheap. With his current record he’s sure to have plenty of suitors and there’ll be a lot of competition for his signature.

It’ll be interesting to see whether The Professor is up for the battle. He certainly seems to know the player well enough.

What’s your take? Could Arsenal be in the market for the Colombian sensation?
