Stephan El ShaarawyReal Madrid recently lost for the first time since September. The game was against AC Milan and Stephan El Shaarawy scored a brace in the process. It was about time that the Spanish powerhouse was cut back down to size.

What’s more, it was great to see El Shaarawy produce the goods against big opposition. The Italian ace has developed a mammoth reputation in recent years and at times, he’s struggled to live up to his own legend.

The forward enjoyed his best season back in 2012/13, when he played 46 times and found the back of the net 19 times. At the time, he was just 20-years-old.

Since then, he’s struggled to produce his best form. Injury problems certainly haven’t helped (last year he only made 9 appearances for his club). Hopefully his goals against Real Madrid were exactly what he needed to kick-start his career.

It certainly seems to have been enough for him to pick up links to some of the Premier League’s best sides, including: Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool. Unfortunately for these teams, Milan don’t appear to be too keen to sell. Check out these comments from a club ‘representative’:

‘Stephan will not leave Milan in January unless there is a sensational offer, the type that no-one can be sure will arrive. He is at the centre of the Milan project, and the relationship with the Coach and the environment is excellent.’ (Source: The Express)

I can’t help but feel that El Shaarawy would be an excellent fit for The Gunners. Arsene Wenger loves slight, technically minded footballers who are quick enough to get in behind and smart enough to be able to apply the finish. It’s just unfortunate that the youngster has managed to accrue such a large price-tag.

Or has he? The Express claim that Premier League sides may be able to sign the Italian youngster for £11.5m. That’s a relatively bargain for a player with such huge potential. If this claim is true, then I certainly hope that Arsene Wenger continues to pursue this particular talent.

He’s not going to break the bank, but he is going to make a big impact. What more could you want?

What’s your take? Does Stephan El Shaarawy have a big career ahead of him. Will he be heading to the Premier League any time soon?
