LavezziIt’s going to be interesting to see what Brendan Rodgers gets up to this January. After all, he needs to make some fairly drastic changes to his team. There are short-comings in just about every area of the pitch and it may well take a considerable sum of cash for Liverpool to set things right.

Unfortunately Rodgers already spent big in the summer, so it’s unlikely that he’ll have much money spare this January. He’s going to have to do some bargain hunting.

Luckily this is something that he’s proved to be good at in the past. Players like Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho have both been signed at prices that don’t really reflect their true value.

This brings me to The Reds continued interest in Paris Saint Germain’s talented winger, Ezequiel Lavezzi. The Argentine is currently a key member of Laurent Blanc’s squad, but it doesn’t look like he’s a long-term option.

A few weeks back, he was valued at around £16m. Now an article in The Metro suggests that he may be allowed to leave for £8m. In other words, he’s had 50% of his price-tag shaved off. Surely that’s got to tempt Brendan Rodgers into a deal?

Lavezzi isn’t getting any younger (he’s 29-years-old), but he’s an experienced and effective individual. He’s not the quickest individual, but he is a determined, direct runner. He has a knack for getting in behind and once he’s through, he’s got the ability to take advantage of the situation.

He’s a good crosser of the ball and he tends to make good decisions. I can’t help but wonder if he’s the kind of player who can help to bring the best out of Mario Balotelli. At the very least I’m sure he’d prove to be an effective partner for Daniel Sturridge (once he’s fully fit).

Besides, for just £8m, this deal strikes me as a real no brainer. How many top quality, experienced internationals can you pick up for that price? Not many!

Make it happen Brendan.

What’s your take? How much would Ezequiel Lavezzi be worth to The Reds?
