Should Arsenal spend £20m on this goal-scoring Ligue 1 star?

LacazetteArsenal can already call upon some fairly talented forwards, but it wouldn’t surprise too many people if Arsene Wenger were to further strengthen this part of the pitch in the near future. After all, The Professor has always seemed more interested in offensive, rather than defensive players.

Besides, with Lukas Podolski now at Inter Milan, Danny Welbeck out injured and Joel Campbell’s future uncertain, there is some scope for a new signing in this position.

This leads me neatly onto The Express‘s claim that Arsenal are ‘keeping tabs’ on Lyon’s star striker Alexandre Lacazette. They’re not the only club who’s been trailing the French forward. Liverpool and Paris Saint Germain are also thought to be on the hunt.

At 23-years-old, Alexandre Lacazette is currently enjoying the form of his career. Last season he scored 22 goals in 54 games. This year, however, he’s already managed to improve on that tally by finding the back of the net 23 times in 27 games. That’s a remarkable return.

In fact, with this kind of strike-rate, Lacazette must surely rank among the most deadly strikers in Europe. Given his youth, this makes him a particularly hot property. Given his French nationality, he’s sure to be on Arsenal’s wish-list.

The Star note that he would ‘cost at least £20m’. That’s a big chunk of change, but if Arsenal sit still now, they may come to regret it. After all, this is a player whose price-tag is only going to rise and rise.

Liverpool are on the hunt for another forward and Paris Saint Germain may be too, if they end up selling Edinson Cavani. In other words, The Gunners could face some staunch competition for his signature. The quicker Arsene Wenger moves, the easier things will be.

Let’s just hope that he’s not only looking for defenders this January.

What’s your take? Should The Gunners be in the market for Alexandre Lacazette? Who else should they consider signing?
