BusquetsFor some time now, The Red Devils have been accused of lacking competitive edge, particularly in the centre-of-the-park. Pundits seem to look at players like Juan Mata and Ashley Young and see lightweights (who are admittedly pretty handy when they’re on the ball).

Sure Louis Van Gaal can also call upon rugged, tall and strong footballers like Marouane Fellaini and Daley Blind, but this duo have been a little inconsistent thus far this season. There must be a good reason why Manchester United keep getting linked to Roma star, Kevin Strootman. The Serie A footballer has previously been labelled ‘The Dutch Roy Keane’, so on the face of things, he looks like a good fit for The Red Devils.

But is he the best possible fit? I’m not so sure. Especially given the recent news that Barcelona star Sergio Busquets could be available.

The Spaniard is one of those players who oppositions fans love to hate. He’s the kind of player who strives on breaking up play, winning the ball back, keeping possession whenever possible and helping his team to dominate games. He’s supremely unselfish and I’d argue that he’s been the backbone of this Barcelona side for the best part of a decade.

And yet all good things come to an end. According to The Express, ‘Busquets is said to be exploring all potential options after losing confidence in Luis Enriques’s vision of the club’. This has led him to pick up links to clubs like Paris Saint Germain, Bayern Munich and Premier League sides Arsenal and Manchester United.

Wouldn’t he be the perfect fit for Manchester United? He’s more experienced than Strootman, he’s got discipline and he’s used to shackling big players. What’s more, he’s only 26-years-old. If Louis Van Gaal wants the best possible option then I’d argue that Busquets is his man.

Still, with the aforementioned source claiming that Chelsea are now favourites to sign him, LVG has his work cut out for him. Let’s hope he’s ready to duke it out with Jose Mourinho.

What’s your take? Where does Sergio Busquet’s future lie: Chelsea or Manchester United?
