Saido BerahinoWith Liverpool’s problems upfront clear for everybody to see, Brendan Rodgers needs to find a quick fix. With the January window hurtling towards us, let’s hope that he’s already drawing up a wishlist and that he’s ready to pull the trigger on the first day of the new year.

The Mario Balotelli experiment has been a huge failure. The Italian striker has been unable to curb his trouble-making character or find the back of the net on a regular basis. Rickie Lambert is a good substitute options, but he’s not much more than that. Then there’s Daniel Sturridge. Oh how The Reds need him to recover from the injury problems that have plagued his season.

Brendan Rodgers spent a lot of money in the summer transfer window, but he’s going to have to get his wallet out again this January. Let’s hope that he’s ready for the challenge.

According to The Metro, Rodgers has his eyes on three potential targets, FC Porto’s superstar striker, Jackson Martinez, West Ham’s Diafra Sakho and West Brom’s Saido Berahino.

Of those three options, I’m most excited by the possibility of Liverpool signing Berahino. His British, he’s young and he’s got fantastic technique. What’s not to love?

Sakho’s having a good year, but is he really the man that Liverpool need? I can’t help but feel that Brendan Rodgers can do better. Jackson Martinez is at the other end of the scale. He’s an unstoppable force in front of goal, but there’s a good chance he lies outside of The Reds’ financial reach. What’s more, he’s 28-years-old. Rodgers is right to target players who can provide the goods for many more years to come.

Berahino has scored 8 goals in 15 games this season and he’s also found the back of the net 10 times in 13 outings for the England U21 side. The aforementioned source claims that he could be available for £25m. Let’s just hope that Liverpool have enough cash to close the deal.

What’s your take? Which striker should Liverpool sign during the January transfer window?
