KhediraThe Gunners have been linked with a move for Sami Khedira for quite some time now. It makes you wonder when Arsene Wenger is going to bite the bullet and try to get things wrapped up. The Professor simply can’t afford to let this opportunity slip through his hands.

Just look at the state of their midfield at the moment. Yes, they’ve got a wealth of attacking options (even with their injury issues), but in the holding role, they’re seriously lacking. With Mikel Arteta sidelined, they’re forced to rely on Mathieu Flamini.

Whilst Flamini keeps possession pretty well and has a reputation for being a tough-tackler, there’s simply no getting past his diminutive stature, his lack of aerial dominance and his ability to let games pass him by. What’s more, there’s no doubting that he’s a yellow card magnet.

Arsenal can do better. Arsenal should do better. They should be looking to wrap up a deal for Sami Khedira, who is one of the best holding midfielders in the world.

The Metro suggest that the German giant could be available for as little as £6m. His contract is set to expire at the end of the season. If Real Madrid don’t sell him during the January transfer window, they risk losing him for nothing. This must be why they’re willing to offer Arsenal a cut-price deal.

If these claims are true, then it looks like Arsenal could be about to pull off a smart piece of business (if they can see off interest from other parties). Adding a solid base to their midfield should help them to concede less goals and be more productive moving forward. Arsenal already have the attacking players they need. Khedira could be the missing piece to the jigsaw puzzle that Arsene Wenger has been assembling.

At 27-years-old, the German ace looks ready for a new challenge. Let’s just hope that Arsene Wenger is willing to offer him one.

What’s your take? Is Sami Khedira a must-have January signing for The Gunners?
