Is this £15m Ligue 1 ace the perfect solution for Liverpool?

LacazetteIn retrospect, it was foolish of Brendan Rodgers and co. to put so much faith in Mario Balotelli. If there’s one man in football you don’t want to pin your hopes on, it’s the young Italian. He’s too petulant and he’s much too inconsistent. His reputation proceeds him, in so many ways.

Brendan Rodgers could never have foreseen Daniel Sturridge’s injury problems, but he still could have done more to guard against this eventuality.

All of which is to say that The Reds don’t have enough quality options upfront. Luckily, the January transfer window is fast approaching and Rodgers will be provided with an opportunity to rectify this situation.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Liverpool have set their sights on signing Lyon’s exciting young centre-forward, Alexandre Lacazette. If a deal were to go through, this would strike me as a step in the right direction for The Reds.

Lacazette has been in excellent form for the last two seasons now. Last year, he scored 22 goals in 54 games. This year he’s already found the back of the net 16 times in just 22 appearances. He’s clearly very effective in the final third. This is all the more exciting given the fact that he’s just 23-years-old.

He’s also lightening quick and he’s technically gifted. He’s not too dissimilar from Daniel Sturridge. He’d be an excellent option to have in reserve at Anfield. In fact, there’s no reason why he couldn’t earn a starting role at Liverpool fairly quickly.

The aforementioned source suggests that Lacazette might be available for £15m. That’s just £1m less than Liverpool spent on Mario Balotelli. Of course, the club will be hoping that they make a significantly better return on the Frenchman than they have thus far on the Italian.

Of course, a striker’s ability to score goals in Ligue 1 doesn’t always translate into an ability to score goals in the Premier League. In this case, however, it looks like a good bet. Alexandre Lacazette is a gamble worth taking.

What’s your take? Should The Reds look to wrap up a deal for Alexandre Lacazette?

He is young and scoring goals. Sometimes all you need as a coach is someone who gives you 100% on the pitch.

We do not have real striker besides Sturridge and that has proven. IMO we need to buy not one but at least two very good strikers who would give us options on the pitch.
