Could Manchester United really snap up this £24m Bundesliga star?

Arjen RobbenManchester United have finally managed to reach a stage where they’re grinding out results again. It’s not a great position to be in, but it’s better than what came before.

The Red Devils have been down in the dumps ever since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club a while back and they’ve put in some disastrously bad performances. At least now they’re in a position to start putting a meaningful amount of points on the board.

Still, I’m sure that Louis Van Gaal will want to start getting more from his team. He’ll have moved to Old Trafford in the hope of securing more silverware for his trophy cabinet, but as things currently stand, he’s some way off of this goal. With that in mind, expect him to open up his wallet once again in the January transfer window.

This brings me to an exciting article that was published recently by The Metro. The source claims that Manchester United are ‘desperate’ to sign Bayern Munich’s star winger, Arjen Robben. If you saw the Dutchman in action during the 2014 World Cup, you’ll be well aware that Arjen Robben in one of the best footballers in the world.

He’s got a remarkable change of pace (despite not being a spring-chicken any more), he’s a tricky character to deal with, he’s impossible to predict and he’s a force in front of goal. During his time at Bayern, he’s scored 97 goals in 181 games. That’s a remarkable return for a winger. He may be 30-years-old, but he still seems to be in the best form of his career (he’s found the back of the net 8 times in 15 appearances thus far this year).

His age must explain why The Metro believe that Manchester United would be willing to lodge a bid as small as £24m. The Dutchman only has two or three years left at the very top of his game. Could this help persuade Bayern Munich to sell up?

Let’s hope so.

What’s your take? Is Arjen Robben a viable option for The Red Devils?
