Arsenal have rarely been worse than during their 2-2 draw against Liverpool, but the fact that they still managed to secure a draw against their Premier League rivals is rather impressive. Brendan Rodger’s team were clearly better prepared and motivated from the get go. Some how, The Gunners managed to get a result, but it wasn’t easy.
Regardless, Arsenal’s overall performance must have Arsene Wenger concerned. After all, it’s been a long while since The Gunner were capable of competing against the Premier League’s biggest teams. Last season Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City took Arsenal apart. This season things haven’t been much better. When it comes to this big away games, The Gunners look a little overawed.
Arsene Wenger can’t be entirely satisfied when he looks at his current crop of players. He must want a little bit more. This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Arsenal are still in the market for Lyon’s impressive young playmaker, Nabil Fekir. The 21-year-old has scored 6 goals in 14 Ligue 1 appearances thus far this year and is widely regarded as one of the best young players in Europe. At just 21-years-old, could he be the answer to all of The Gunners’ problems?
According to Fekir’s father,this youngster could well wind up at The Emirates in the near future. Check out these comments: “Nabil would like to finish first or second and play Champions League football with Lyon. If he leaves, it will be for Arsenal. It is the only club that can enable him to progress, with Arsene Wenger. He will not go to Manchester City to sit on the bench.”
It looks like the player believes that Arsenal could provide him with a meaningful future. If that’s true, then The Gunners have stolen a march in the battle to sign Nabil Kekir. The aforementioned source suggests that he could be available for as little as £8m. That strikes me as a price worth paying.
If Arsenal are hoping to drag themselves back into contention, they’d do well to target players like Fekir. This 21-year-old could prove to be exactly what they need.
