Gonzalo Higuain (Argentina):The Gunners start to the season hasn’t been all that great, but at least their new signings are fitting in well (those who have remained fit, that is). Calum Chambers has been a regular part of Arsenal’s defense (despite being just 19-years-old) and both Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck have been in the goals.

Sanchez in particular has been impressive. With his combination of work-rate, technique and goal-scoring nous, he’s an example to every other arsenal player.

Still, with Arsenal not clicking as a unit, it wouldn’t surprise me if Arsene Wenger opted to add another player or two to his squad during the January tranfer window. He can’t be entirely satisfied with the way things are going at the moment.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that The Gunners have already opened ‘negotiations’ with Napoli regarding their superstar striker, Gonzalo Higuain. The source suggests that a £31.2m deal could be on the cards. Is it time for Arsenal fans to get excited?

The Argentine ace’s record more or less speaks for itself. Whilst at Real Madrid, he scored 122 goals in 264 games. Since he’s moved to Napoli, he’s found the back of the net 30 times in 59 games. He’s seriously effective in the final third. This is a man who spent 7 seasons at The Bernabeu. You don’t achieve that without having something a little special about your game.

I’d argue that he’d be an improvement on both Olivier Giroud (who’s way to slow and cumbersome, despite being a good finisher) and Danny Welbeck (who’s improving all the time, but still isn’t clinical enough to be labelled a top striker). With that in mind, I certainly wouldn’t be disappointed to see Arsenal move in for Higuain.

£31.2m is a lot of money, but this is a top quality player we’re talking about. If The Gunners make the gamble, I’m sure they’d get a return on investment.

What’s your take? Should Arsene Wenger look to close a deal for Napoli star, Gonzalo Higuain?
