Should Liverpool hijack this £25m Arsenal team?

PedroIn recent times The Gunners have been receiving a fair amount of criticism for their lacklustre attack. That was before Alexis Sanchez snapped into life and started to deliver blockbuster performances on a game-by-game basis. The man is a true marvel: he’s one of the hardest working players in the Premier League and he backs this up with pace, technical ability and goal-scoring nous.

He’s not unlike ex-Liverpool star Luis Suarez. This brings me to the point of this article. Whilst Arsenal have improved from an attacking point of view, The Reds are still struggling. Without the trouble-making Uruguayan (and the injured Daniel Sturridge), they lack the cutting edge that they had in spades last season.

With this in mind, it really wouldn’t surprise me if Brendan Rodgers were to look to strengthen his squad during the January transfer window. He needs to do something to kick-start Liverpool’s season.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Liverpool ‘are ready’ to outbid Arsenal in the race to sign Barcelona star Pedro. That’s exciting news.

The Spaniard has been a member of Barca’s first team since 2007 and he’s been a consistent performer. What’s most impressive about Pedro is how effective he is in the final third. In 276 games for the Spanish powerhouse, he’s scored 88 goals (a good return for a winger).

Last season he made 54 appearances for Barca and found the back of the net 19 times. He really seems to be hitting his peak. As such, it strikes me that this is exactly the kind of player that Liverpool should be chasing.

Luckily enough, it looks like Pedro is there for the taking. The 27-year-old has find his game time lacking this season as he’s slipped behind Neymar and Luis Suarez in the pecking order. The aforementioned source claims that Liverpool will be able to close the deal for £25m.

That’s a lot of money, but if he’s half as good as Alexis Sanchez (another former Barcelona star), he’ll prove to be a bargain.

What’s your take? Should The Reds look to hijack Arsenal’s deal for Pedro?
