Should Arsenal consider cashing in on this dynamic duo?

Podolski 2Arsenal’s squad really is in a curious state. It’s under-loaded with defensive personnel and completely overloaded with attacking options. The Gunners can barely string together a proper back-four and yet there’s deserving footballers who aren’t getting a look in this season. How could Arsene Wenger let things come to this?

Consider the plight of footballers like Tomas Rosicky, Lukas Podolski and Joel Campbell. How can 19-year-old Calum Chambers be getting so much game-time, whilst they’re expected to spend time warming the bench? How can Mathieu Flamini be so close to the first team when he contributes so little?

It strikes me as a little unfair, but that’s football. One thing’s for sure: if Arsene Wenger doesn’t start to play these individuals soon, there’s sure to be a lot of speculation regarding their futures during the January transfer market.

This brings me neatly onto The Metro‘s recent claim that Inter Milan are interested in snapping up two of Arsenal’s attacking personnel: Lukas Podolski and Joel Campbell. I wonder how fans will take this news.

It’s not clear how much Inter are willing to offer in return for Podolski and Campbell, but their interest in both players is certainly worth considering. Arsene Wenger won’t want to be held accountable for their careers stagnating. If either of them has a shot at getting game time at a decent club, they should be afforded that opportunity.

Ideally The Gunners won’t let go of them both (it’s always good to have back-up options in every area of the pitch), but sending one packing can’t hurt. This is especially true if Arsenal reimburse the cash they get for the sale in signing a talented defender.

I personally hope that Arsene Wenger opts to keep hold of Joel Campbell. The Costa Rican ace has bucket-loads of potential (as evidenced at The World Cup) and could end up as a first team regular in the future. Arsene Wenger and co. just need to remain patient.

Either way, let’s just hope that Arsene Wenger seeks to address the imbalance prevalent in his squad.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal sell Lukas Podolski or Joel Campbell? How do they go about fixing their defense?

Podolski would be a loss but he isn’t playing so he should leave. Why Arsene Wenger doesn’t rate him is kind of a mystery since his goals per minute played ratio is excellent and is impressive in light of the fact that so many of his appearances are brief cameos.

Campbell’s sale would be a mistake. He has not been given a chance and that is another mystery. Perhaps he is not applying himself in training? With Welbeck not 100%, Hull a little weak, this might be the weekend to give the lad a sniff of first team football.
