Arturo Vidal ChileManchester United were linked to a huge amount of players this summer and actually wound up signing a good portion of them. One player they missed out on, however, was Juventus superstar, Arturo Vidal.

Given the way that The Red Devils have started the season, I’m sure that fans will be wishing that Louis Van Gaal had managed to pull the trigger on that particular deal. Yes, it may have effected deals for Radamel Falcao or Angel Di Maria, but I’d argue that it would have transformed Manchester United into a more balanced side.

Arturo Vidal is one of the most athletic, dynamic midfielders in the world. He’s excellent on the ball, with his smart change of pass, direct running and quick feet. He can pick out a killer pass, or get in behind by beating his man.

More importantly for Manchester United, he’s a competitive type. He’ll run all game, slam into tackles and make a good number of interceptions. If he were taller and better in the air, he’d be a complete midfielder. It’s easy to see why The Red Devils were interested. Arturo Vidal is the real deal.

As such, I was delighted to see The Metro claim that Manchester United are still interested in the Chilean ace. They carry quotes from former Juventus star Vidal Nicola Amoruso, who carefully outlines the situation:

“There will soon be a split between Vidal and Juventus. He is a player of value, but he needs to go and compete in other leagues.”

Given that Amoruso is a ‘close friend’ of Vidal’s, there’s no reason to doubt his words. The aforementioned source claims that The Red Devils would have to cough up £35m to drag the deal across the line. Let’s hope that they’re willing to do exactly that.

Yes, it would continue Manchester United’s big spending spree, but this is one investment that I could see paying off in a major way. If Louis Van Gaal can bring Arturo Vidal to Old Trafford, he may well get his club back on the right track.

What’s your take? Is Arturo Vidal still the right man for Manchester United?
