RudigerIn recent months, Stuttgart centre-back, Antonio Rudiger has shot to attention. He’s been winning plenty of plaudits for his all action displays and is already accruing a healthy list of suitors.

The Metro label him ‘one of the best young centre-backs in the world’ and claim that Chelsea are interested in bringing him to the Premier League. Unfortunately for The Blues, the source also carries quotes from the player in question, which detail his affection for another English club side.

‘I have always dreamed of the Premier League. I have been following Arsenal since the days of Henry and Bergkamp. I watch videos of Arsenal all the time on YouTube and I often wear the current Alexis Sanchez shirt. My heart beats for Arsenal.’

So much for that move to Chelsea, eh?

It’s not often that you hear a player speaking so candidly about his affection for another club. Under normal circumstances, it just doesn’t happen. That makes me wonder: what’s brought about these comments?

Does the player in question feel confident that a move could go ahead? Is he aware that Arsenal are short defensively and is he trying to garner Arsene Wenger’s attention?

It’s impossible to say. Either way, things are looking good for The Gunners. They’re seriously lacking in quality (and quantity) in this department and they’ve got a talented option fluttering his eyes in their direction.

The Metro suggests that Antonio Rudiger could be available for as little as £7m. Given his current standing in the game and his potential, I’d argue that this could end up being a real bargain.

He’s just 20-years-old, but he’s already shown quality beyond his years. He’s physically tough (which should allow him to adapt to Premier League football quite quickly), he’s strong in the air and he times his tackles well. There’s plenty to admire about the young German.

So let’s just hope that Arsene Wenger is able to cough up £7m and close the deal.

What’s your take? Is Antonio Rudiger a good option for The Gunners? Can they beat Chelsea to the punch?
