MartinezI think it’s fair to say that things haven’t really clicked for Tottenham this season. They offer so little from an attacking perspective, that it’s difficult for them to control games and limit the opposition’s impact.

Whilst they’re much improved in other areas of the pitch (they managed to hold Arsenal to a 1-1 draw, after all), they still need to sort out their attack. But this is something we’ve known for the last 12 months.

I’d argue that more could have been done about this during the summer, but that’s in the past now. There must have been a good reason for Daniel Levy not freeing up the cash to bring in a big name.

Let’s just hope that he’s a little more open-minded when the January transfer window swings by. Spurs can’t afford to rely solely on players like Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor for much longer. Whilst they both have quality elements to their game, they lack the dynamism necessary to propel Tottenham into the big time.

This brings me to Jackson Martinez, one of the most dynamic, powerful and athletic presences in European football. The Metro claim that Spurs are interested in the FC Porto centre-forward and are willing to meet the Primeira Liga side’s £25m asking price.

They’re going to face stiff competition from Valencia, who are also keen on the Colombian hit-man. And why wouldn’t they be? Martinez’s goal-scoring form is nothing short of remarkable.

He’s scored 69 goals in 99 games for FC Porto. Already this season, he’s found the back of the net 9 times in 8 games. He’s clearly a deadly force in front of the net. He’d represent a significant step-up on the likes of Soldado and Adebayor. He could even be good enough to help Spurs compete for a Champions League slot (either this year or next).

Now we just need to wait and see if Daniel Levy and co. have enough money in the bank to try and seal a deal. I’ll certainly be keeping my finger’s crossed.

What’s your take? Is Jackson Martinez the right man for Spurs?

The money is not the problem these so called stars want Man Utd Man City Chelsea Arsenal Liverpool or the Real Madrids or Barcelona and then sky high wages etc etc etc + Champions League football so how do you compete with that , we are linked with every conceiviable player should it be from keeper to full backs midfielders wingers strikers its fine identifying the players you want but getting them to WHL is another thing entirely.

you’ve got to then go for that elusive youngster which hasn’t yet been spotted by the big clubs or look to bring in a seasoned pro who’s been there & done all that so just wants to play football rather than occupy a bench on a team full of megastars & maybe has 2 or 3 decent seasons in him.. e.g. huntleaar.

Johnny is spot on about Spurs” drawing power for strikers. And Ped , in conjunction, with those remarks, offers an alternative. Still a problem is the lack of delivery by outside backs who are not too skilled in moving the ball into the box.
