Khedira1From what we’ve seen of Arsenal thus far, they’re a team that is very much following their old patterns. They’re strong in attack and fairly weak in defence.

For once however, this is largely due to the quantity of their defenders, rather than the quality of them. I guess that’s a step forward.

In particular, fans have been bemoaning their lack of a proper defensive midfielder. Mikel Arteta is getting on in years and his passing game hasn’t been quite so tight this season. Then there’s Mathieu Flamini who doesn’t really offer that much from a defensive or an attacking point of view.

Bringing somebody else in this January could be the smart move. Perhaps Arsene Wenger will finally make a move for Sami Khedira, a player that The Gunners have been interested in for a number of months now.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Sami Khedira has already ‘accepted a move to Arsenal’ this January and that the only thing that remains to do is to agree a fee with Real Madrid.

Of course, The Metro also include a poll asking whether Sami Khedira is a ‘Big Talent’ or a ‘Beardy Weirdy’, so it’s a little difficult to know what to make of their claims. I’m sure that Arsenal fans will have their fingers crossed in anticipation of this story being true.

As for Real Madrid, they’ll probably be willing to do business with The Gunners. Khedira’s current contract will expire at the end of the season, when he’ll be available as a free agent. Carlo Ancelotti will probably want to cash in on the player whilst he still can.

The German ace has a lot to offer this Arsenal team. He’s tall, physically strong and he’s extremely competitive. He’s also pretty handy on the ball and he’s more than capable of contributing form an attacking point of view.

If a cut-price deal is on the cards, The Gunners could be set for a real bargain.

What’s your take? Is Sami Khedira the right man for Arsenal?
