Should Manchester United offer Radamel Falcao a permanent deal?

It looks like Radamel Falcao is pretty excited about what the future holds for him. Check out these quotes:

“Manchester United had been pursuing me for the past few months. Yes, other clubs like Real Madrid were interested, but I wanted to go to Manchester. It is a great club, with a great history and one that fills me with a lot of hope that I can succeed there. I always dreamed to be in a club like Manchester United”. (Source: The Metro)

Those words will be music to Manchester United fan’s ears. Let’s just hope that he’s not just saying what he thinks his new club and its fan-base would want to hear.

As it happens, the Colombian goes a step further hinting that he’d like to stay at Old Trafford for longer than his one year loan move would permit:

“I would like to be here and be part of the project. I want to stay here for many years.”

So could Radamel Falcao be a part of a long term solution for Manchester United, or is he just a temporary fix?

Well, I’d guess that would depend on how well he performs this season. Falcao is an extremely well paid footballer. Manchester United are spending a lot on his wages and they’d have to spend considerably more to make his loan deal permanent. It’s not a no-brainer by any means.

Still, it’s hard not to see Radamel Falcao making a huge impact at Manchester United. I’m talking about the kind of impact that will make him damn near indispensable at Old Trafford.

Whilst at Atletico Madrid he scored a remarkable 70 goals in 91 games. His record was even better during his time at FC Porto. If he can replicate this form at Manchester United, he’s sure to fire the club back to glory.

Manchester United also have to consider how signing Radamel Falcao would effect the careers of Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie (who are both well paid). Still, there’s no room for sentimentality. If Falcao is good enough to lead The Red Devils line, then he should.

But only time will tell if he’s the right man for the job in the long-term.
