Could Arsenal be in the market for this £20m prodigy?

Paco Alcacer (Valencia)Arsene Wenger is one great big tease. Prior to deadline day, he’d tell everyone who listened that he had more than enough strikers, despite his main man, Olivier Giroud, being out with a long-term injury.

He would point towards players like Theo Walcott (who’s only just returning from injury), Lukas Podolski (who he doesn’t really seem to trust), Alexis Sanchez (who’s still adapting to the Premier League) and Joel Campbell (who is still too raw and inexperienced).

Still, the fact that he actually went out and bought Danny Welbeck is somewhat revealing. For all his talk, it’s now clear that he’s not entirely happy with the options that he’s currently got at the club.I’d argue that most of the strikers he has listed are actually wingers, any way.

With Danny Welbeck and Olivier Giroud The Gunners’ only out and out strikers, it wouldn’t surprise me if Arsene Wenger was keen to strengthen his forward line-up even further.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Arsenal are set to ‘make a bid for Valencia’s talented young striker, Paco Alcacer.

The 21-year-old certainly looks like a good option. Last season he made 37 appearances for Valencia and found the back of the net 14 times (he also chipped in with 3 assists). He’s only played twice this season, but he’s already managed to get off the mark.

All of this is very impressive, especially considering his age.

The Metro even suggest that Valencia now value him at ‘over £20m’, whilst claiming that Chelsea, Real Madrid and Barcelona are all keeping tabs on the Spaniard. If Arsene Wenger really is interest in Paco then it won’t be an easy deal to close.

But as a third choice striker, it’s hard to think of anybody better. He’s young, he’s fired up and he’s already got a good goal-scoring record. This looks like a match made in heaven.

What’s your take? Do Arsenal need to sign another striker? Would Paco Alcacer be a good addition to The Gunners’ squad?
