Christoph KramerBoth Manchester United and Liverpool had massive summers. Brendan Rodgers and Louis Van Gaal were both handed huge transfer budgets. This resulted in a kind of transfer market version of Supermarket Sweep, with both managers seemingly snapping up as many players as possible, regardless of the price.

The success of this approach remains to be seen. As things currently stand however, things are very interestingly balanced.

It’s also interesting to see that both clubs didn’t quite finish off all their desired transfer activity this summer. Looking for evidence? How about The Metro’s claim that United and Liverpool were two of the clubs who were interested in signing Germany’s World Cup hero, Christoph Kramer?

The source even goes a step further by claiming that both clubs could continue to chase the player throughout the next transfer window.

Christoph Kramer is currently smack-bang in the middle of a two-year loan deal with Borussia Monchengladbach. Whilst he’s currently a Bayer Leverkusen player, he will be available as a free transfer next summer when his contract expires.

If things reach this stage, he’s sure to attract a lot of attention from a lot of big clubs. Liverpool and Manchester United certainly wouldn’t be alone.

The aforementioned source claims that Monchengladbach are keen to make the loan deal for Kramer into a permanent one. It’s suggested that they’ll offer Leverkusen £12m to make this happen.

If either Liverpool or Manchester United are still hoping to add more steel to their midfield, then they’ll have to match Monchengladbach’s offer. If they’re able to do that, then they should be able to fend off the German side’s advances. After all, a move to a top Premier League club should hold more appeal than a move to another second-tier Bundesliga side.

At 23-years-old, it looks like Kramer has a huge career ahead of him. Whoever wins this transfer battle will receive quite a prize. Brendan Rodgers’ and Louis Van Gaal’s transfer work isn’t over quite yet. It’ll certainly be interesting to watch this one play out.

What’s your take? Where would Christoph Kramer fit in best: Old Trafford or Anfield?
