Jack Wilshere - ArsenalNo one player seems to attract more criticism from fans than Jack Wilshere.

The problem seems to stem from his role within the England camp. After years (and years) of disappointment at International level, fans decided to pin their hope on the youngster who looked like he had the potential to be the next big thing.

After a flurry of superb performances at a young age, Wilshere’s career has slowed down significantly. The same fans that pinned their hopes on him have now started to turn on him. Everybody wants to see more. They want the horse they backed to come in in first place. At the moment, that doesn’t look like happening.

The same thing that’s happening to Jack Wilshere could well end up happening to Raheem Sterling.

Unfortunately, Jack Wilshere’s faced a number of obstacles throughout his career. His injury record, for a start, is very problematic. Is it any wonder that he’s struggled to make his mark when he’s not really been able to tuck a decent run of games under his belt?

The player himself seems to be getting sick and tired of the constant stream of criticism that’s directed his way. Check out some of his recent comments (which were directed towards ex-Tottenham star Jamie Redknapp):

‘It’s easy for someone to go on television and say: “He should be doing this or that.” But, if you look back, he was injured just as much as I was. Maybe more. And he was never injured at my age as well and it does take a lot of mental strength [to come back].’

‘It doesn’t ‘hurt’ me, hearing criticism from ex-players. It probably disappoints me a little bit more.’

He also goes on to suggest that he enjoys receiving constructive criticism and notes that he’s keen to keep developing. All in all, he strikes me as an open-minded individual who works hard and has already achieved an extraordinary amount at a young age.

Who would bet against him having an absolutely colossal career? Who would bet against him achieving more than Jamie Redknapp? He already has more England caps.

All it’s going to take is an Aaron Ramsey-esque career boost. He’s certainly at the right club to make this happen.

What’s your take? What does the future hold for Jack Wilshere? Are pundits right to single him out for criticism?
